FARMHOUSE TORGGLERHOF

PASSEIER VALLEY - SOUTH TYROL

Somewhere between the apple orchards, thoughtful design, and that irresistible feeling of never wanting to leave, you’ll find Farmhouse Torgglerhof. Here, traditional Alpine farm life meets laid-back design, heartfelt hospitality blends with creative touches — and it’s exactly this mix that makes a stay here feel so special. One thing becomes clear pretty quickly: this isn’t your typical hotel. It’s a whole way of life.

THE VIBE

There’s something quietly special about FARMHOUSE TORGGLERHOF — and that’s exactly where its magic lies. Nothing feels overdesigned or staged. Instead, everything seems to have grown naturally over time: between the apple orchards, centuries-old walls, and clean contemporary architecture, there’s an atmosphere that feels both calming and full of life.

What makes the place so memorable is the balance it strikes between privacy and togetherness. You can completely retreat into your own world — or find yourself lingering over conversations, shared tables, and those spontaneous little moments that somehow become the highlight of the trip. Often, all it takes is a smile or a few exchanged words, and suddenly you feel part of it all.

That sense of authenticity isn’t accidental. The farmhouse has been run by the Pichler family for three generations, and you can feel that history in every corner. Today, Sepp and Mali run the estate together with their children Martin and Maria, alongside son-in-law Christian and the next generation already growing into life on the farm. Everyone brings their own personality and ideas, which gives the place an energy that feels genuinely lived-in rather than curated.

And while FARMHOUSE TORGGLERHOF has evolved beautifully over the years, it still feels deeply rooted in its story. A perfect symbol of that is the large willow tree in the garden, planted by Sepp and Mali more than forty years ago. Today, it’s the quiet heart of the property — a place to sit, pause, and take in just how much history and feeling this place holds.

The warmth of the hosts shapes the experience in subtle ways. Conversations happen naturally, stories are shared, ideas exchanged. Guests aren’t treated like passive visitors here, but as part of the rhythm of the house — whether quietly in the background or right in the middle of it all.

And yet, there’s always space to slow down and disappear for a while. That’s what makes the atmosphere so special: lively, but never loud. Personal, but never intrusive.

Maybe that’s ultimately what stays with you most — somewhere between a glass of sparkling apple wine in the garden, the soft evening atmosphere, and the quiet feeling of having briefly become part of something real.

THE STAY

Staying at Torgglerhof comes with that rare feeling of instantly settling in. The architecture honours the farmhouse’s history without ever leaning into nostalgia. Instead, old and new blend effortlessly together — clean-lined design softened by warm textures and a deep appreciation for natural materials.

Wood, stone, linen, and earthy tones run throughout the spaces, creating an atmosphere that feels calm, grounded, and quietly luxurious. Large windows frame the surrounding landscape like artwork, while loggias, terraces, and secluded corners constantly draw your attention back outside.

Each room category has its own distinct personality — whether cosy and intimate, spacious and airy, or flooded with natural light. Nothing feels generic; every space has been designed with character and intention.

One of the standout spaces is the Brunnenhaus Spa. Even entering it feels like part of the experience: behind an intricately crafted wooden door, the spa unfolds almost as if it has been carved directly into the hillside itself. The connection between indoors and outdoors is beautifully seamless, creating a sense of both shelter and openness. Natural stone, soft light, and quiet architectural details give the entire space an almost meditative atmosphere.

The spa includes a steam bath, a Finnish sauna with panoramic views, and a tucked-away clay sauna, while the daily sauna infusions have become something of a ritual in themselves.

Outside, the experience continues with a heated indoor-outdoor pool open to all guests, while the adults-only “Silence” natural pool is designed entirely around peace and stillness.

And then comes the moment many guests end up loving most: stepping straight from the sauna into the cold plunge pool — refreshing, invigorating, and quickly becoming part of the ritual. Afterwards, it’s easy to lose track of time between the relaxation rooms and sun loungers scattered across the garden.

And once you’ve settled in, there’s really no reason to move again — drinks and snacks are happily delivered straight to your favourite spot in the sun.

THE FOOD

When it comes to food, TORGGLERHOF is very much in a league of its own. This isn’t simply a place where meals are served — it’s a place where cooking begins with what the farm and the region naturally provide. And you can taste that in every detail.

Mornings start with a breakfast that feels less routine and more ritual: beautifully presented local produce, homemade specialties, fresh-baked treats, and the kind of spread that makes you want to linger just a little longer over coffee and another slice of something delicious.

By evening, the kitchen shifts into a more creative rhythm. Multi-course menus can be tailored individually, pairing regional ingredients with contemporary influences in a way that feels refined without ever trying too hard. The focus stays exactly where it should be — on flavour, quality, and the ingredients themselves.

At the heart of it all is the farm’s own manufactory. Using apples grown right on the estate, the team creates everything from crisp cider and delicately sparkling apple wine to juices and their own wines — each with a distinct personality and story behind it. And those stories aren’t just told; they’re experienced, whether during tastings, casual conversations, or spontaneous moments at the bar.

Then there’s the farm shop — although calling it just a shop doesn’t quite do it justice. Part wine boutique, part meeting place, part workshop, part concept store, it’s the kind of space people wander into “just for a quick look” and somehow never leave quickly. Between shelves of wine, regional delicacies, and carefully curated finds, it’s incredibly easy to lose track of time.

THE ADVENTURE

At Torgglerhof, you can fill your days with experiences — or intentionally do very little at all. Somehow, both feel equally right here.

A real highlight are the garden concerts: relaxed, easygoing evenings filled with music, good drinks, and that unmistakable warmth of South Tyrolean summer nights. The atmosphere lands somewhere between an intimate festival and a laid-back gathering among friends.

For those wanting something more hands-on, creative workshops offer a glimpse into the world of the farmhouse itself — from flower arranging to small craft projects that invite guests to slow down, make something with their hands, and switch off for a while.

There’s also plenty happening behind the scenes. Guided tastings and tours give guests a deeper look into the philosophy of the house, the production of its own drinks, and the stories behind them. Especially the world of apples, cider, and wine adds another layer to understanding what makes this place so unique.

The weekly programme changes regularly and strikes a thoughtful balance between movement and relaxation — from yoga sessions and sauna rituals to shared outings and long, indulgent evenings around food and wine.

And then, of course, there’s the landscape itself. Hiking trails, panoramic viewpoints, and quiet little adventures begin right outside the door. Whether it’s watching the sunrise over the mountains, wandering through apple orchards, or simply finding a peaceful spot in the greenery, the surroundings make it remarkably easy to leave everyday life behind.

A local favourite: sunrise at Flecknerspitze

Once a week, a member of the Pichler family joins guests on a guided sunrise hike to the summit of Flecknerspitze at 2,331 metres — an early start absolutely worth making. The views alone are unforgettable, but it’s the shared experience and quiet atmosphere up there that make it feel truly special.

At sunset, a herd of goats makes its way along a narrow mountain path, winding its way along rocky ridges with sweeping views of the Alpine peaks in the warm evening light.
