AUTENTIS
ANTHOLZERTAL VALLEY - SOUTH TYROL
Staying at Hotel Autentis feels less like checking in – and more like coming home. Hospitality and heritage go hand in hand here, with the Steiner family at its heart and the scent of hand-crafted speck in the air. The butcher shop and the hotel are deeply connected – not just by walls, but by soul. This isn’t just South Tyrol to look at. It’s South Tyrol you can feel.
Hotelstory, through the lens and words of Marika Unterladstätter

- Flavour that feels real: Seasonal, regional, and full of character. This is mountain cuisine at its most sincere.
HOTEL AUTENTIS is the place to be if you’re:
-
Grounded dreamer: You love the charm of tradition – but with a fresh, modern edge. This is your kind of place.
-
True flavour seeker: Handmade over hyped, honest over fancy – the kitchen here speaks your language.
-
Active soul: Long hikes, wild trails, crisp mountain air – and a warm, welcoming home to return to.

wHAT's THE VIBE?
It all started in 1955, when Toni’s grandparents bought a farmhouse in the quiet Antholz Valley. Back then, it was simple living – shared bathrooms, cold water basins, and a hot water bottle instead of a spa. But the spirit was already there: warm, grounded, and full of heart.
Three generations on, that same spirit still carries through every corner of Autentis. When Toni talks about his family’s story, you don’t just hear pride – you feel it. Every wooden beam, every weathered stone, even the speck tells its part. This is a place where heritage isn’t polished away, but carefully celebrated. Where old walls breathe – and the future is built with respect.
Today, Toni and his wife Cornelia lead the way, with the whole family still involved – not out of duty, but out of love. Everyone brings something: passion, knowledge, soul. And that’s what you feel as a guest – a place built not just with hands, but with heart.

WHAT's LIKE TO STAY HERE?
At Autentis, every room tells part of a bigger story – one that weaves together centuries-old architecture, natural materials and quiet mountain elegance.
The main house is the heart of it all: a warm, wood-scented space where locals and guests meet in the Hanserstube, stories are swapped over wine, and the air carries a hint of speck and South Tyrolean spice. There’s a wellness area tucked beneath, with indoor and outdoor pools, and a sauna that looks out to the peaks.
Next door, what was once a hayloft is now a dreamy hideaway: suites clad in local larch wood, with reading lofts, cosy corners and just enough nostalgia. In the “Knechtkammer” – once the farmhand’s room – real hay has been pressed into the walls, as a gentle nod to the building’s roots.
The historic manor, Ansitz Joggila, is where old soul meets understated luxury. 16th-century stone walls, timeworn beams, a fireplace that remembers. The renovation kept its character, added refinement – and left space for silence. It's a place made for couples, for slowness, for moments that last.
And then there’s the butcher’s cellar – the original vaulted space beneath the house, blackened by time, untouched in spirit. Toni Steiner left it just as it was, scars and all. “Be who you are,” he says. “Don’t cover it up. That’s real life. That’s beauty.” And somehow, that’s exactly what Autentis is: raw, refined, and quietly unforgettable.

WHAT'S ON THE MENU?
At Autentis, the kitchen and the butcher’s craft are one and the same – and you can taste it in every bite. This is no-frills, slow-grown cooking: honest, regional, deeply rooted in the land. Meat often takes centre stage (with good reason), but vegetarians are just as well cared for. It’s a kitchen that knows where everything comes from – and why that matters.
Your day begins with a generous breakfast. In the afternoon, there’s soup, cake or a scoop of gelato waiting when you return from the mountains. And in the evening? That’s when the Autentis table comes to life. It starts with a colourful buffet of antipasti and house-made charcuterie – straight from the in-house butcher’s cellar. Then comes the daily star: a new take on the classic South Tyrolean dumpling. One knödel, every night, with a perfectly paired sauce. After that: three more courses, thoughtfully composed and deeply satisfying.
And the drinks? South Tyrolean wines, served with charm. Or – if you're feeling curious – a glass of their own Speck Gin. Smoked, smooth, surprising. Every Sunday night, it even gets its own moment: the Gin & Tonic Night, with twists and infusions that would make any London bar proud.
And once a week, there’s something special: a speck tasting in the old butcher’s parlour. The knives are sharp, the stories flow, and the taste is pure South Tyrol – rustic, rich, unforgettable.

WHAT'S THERE TO DO?
BETWEEN DOLOMITES AND CENTRAL ALPS
Let’s start with the obvious: the location is a dream. Autentis sits at the entrance to the Antholz Valley – a quiet side valley of the Pustertal – nestled between the jagged Dolomites and the towering Central Alps. From here, South Tyrol’s postcard highlights are just a short drive away: the turquoise waters of Lake Braies, the dramatic ridges of the Three Peaks, the sweeping silence of the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park.
WANDER, RIDE, OR JUST LOOK AROUND
But you don’t have to go far to feel far away. Wander through the valley, hop on a bike, or take the local bus that stops just outside the door (free with the guest card). One lovely route: the waterfall trail up to the Klammbach, followed by a hearty Kaiserschmarrn at the Bergeralm. A little sugar, a lot of view.
GUIDED BY LOCALS, GROUNDED IN NATURE
Feeling active? The Autentis team knows every path and peak and is always happy to share personal tips – or guide you there themselves. Monday to Friday, they offer guided hikes for every level, from gentle family strolls to summit-worthy climbs.
PACKED AND READY TO GO
Need gear? It’s all ready and waiting: hiking poles, backpacks, child carriers, water bottles in summer – snowshoes, spikes and sleds in winter.
CYCLING WITH A VIEW
Prefer two wheels? Mountain bikes are free to borrow, and e-bikes are available too. A favourite ride: from the hotel all the way to Lake Antholzersee – a sparkling green jewel surrounded by forest and the peaks of the Rieserferner range.
UP FOR AN ADVENTURE?
More into thrills than trails? How about tandem paragliding from the Kronplatz or rafting down wild rivers? The Steiner family will always “know someone who knows someone.”
SLOW MOMENTS, SMALL DISCOVERIES
Or maybe you'd like to slow it down. Bruneck is just around the corner – ideal for a bit of shopping, a museum visit, or simply people-watching over coffee. The local markets are also worth a wander – and a delicious way to take a little piece of South Tyrol home with you.
WHERE THE WORLD RACES – AND YOU CAN TOO
And then there’s the Biathlon. Yes, really. The Antholz Valley is home to one of the world’s most famous biathlon stadiums. In winter, you can ski where the pros race. In summer, join a behind-the-scenes tour – and try your hand at shooting. It's unexpectedly addictive.
