THE VIBE
The road winds its way up through meadows and woods, with every curve peeling away a bit more of everyday life. By the time you reach Fuchsegg, the world is hushed. Birds chirp, cowbells ring softly, and the air smells like forest and freedom.
Six timber-clad houses form a gentle hamlet, echoing the traditional "Vorsäß" settlements of the Bregenzerwald. Built in 2020, they feel like they’ve always been here—rooted in regional tradition, but with a fresh architectural spirit. Local materials like white fir, felted wool, stone and clay line the rooms. Everything comes from the neighbourhood. Everything feels right.
The 9,000 square metre plot is blissfully fence-free—inviting not isolation, but openness. Here, “together time” isn’t just encouraged, it’s designed into the place. People of all ages cross paths: playing, talking, reading, relaxing. In that order—or any other.
You’ll be welcomed by the warm, attentive team led by hotel director Mona Lipburger – all heart, all ears, and always one thoughtful step ahead. Behind the scenes, hosts Carmen and Kerim Can quietly shape the spirit of Fuchsegg with vision, care, and a meticulous eye for detail.
Carmen – a nature-loving soul and certified systemic coach – poured her lifelong dream into this retreat. Her deep-rooted love for the region and memories of growing up in Schetteregg are woven into every corner of the lodge. Even the colour palette tells her story: blueberry blue and porcini brown – a gentle homage to the forest all around.

THE STAY
Each of Fuchsegg’s 30 lodgings is a character of its own—from cosy double rooms to roomy lodges, from airy lofts to family-friendly chalets. They range from 24 to 45 square metres and all share the same core principle: thoughtful design and genuine comfort.
Some rooms come with a fireplace you can light yourself. Trust us—watching those flames dance as the forest outside grows quiet is an evening ritual you won’t want to miss.
The design is understated, but warm. Huge windows bring the outdoors in. Sliding wooden shutters let the light in gently. Natural tones, tactile materials and a tangible sense of calm create a space where your whole system slows down.
Outside your door, a compact spa world awaits: Finnish and bio saunas, a steam bath, infrared loungers, and a restful relaxation room with forest views. A 15-metre heated outdoor pool stretches out across the hillside, and in the woods: a yoga platform where birdsong replaces the playlist.
Kids and grown-up adventurers alike love the wide-open meadows and the “Tenn”—an indoor play barn with space for ping-pong, foosball, ride-on tractors and all-weather romping. Because deep down, everyone’s a kid at heart.
And for minds in motion: two seminar spaces (125 m² and 54 m²) are perfect for deep work, team bonding or personal retreats. In between? Cosy corners, calm forests, and time to let ideas unfold.
There’s also a book-lined library with a crackling fire. Come for a quick browse—stay for an afternoon. Board games are stacked and waiting for long evenings or rainy days that become the highlight of your trip.

THE FOOD
Fuchsegg is a haven for food lovers—whether you're spending the night or simply popping in (just be sure to book ahead!). Meals are served in the House of Coming Together: a light-filled space where lobby, bar and restaurant flow effortlessly into one another—just like the conversations, the laughter, and the heavenly scent wafting from the kitchen.
At the heart of it all: a long, inviting table. Not an heirloom, but a symbol. Just like in the old days in the Bregenzerwald, it brings people together—over warm bread, shared stories and steaming cups of tea. In the morning, it transforms into a beautifully arranged buffet: crusty bread, creamy local butter, cheese from the Brongen alpine pasture, homemade spreads, fresh fruit, muesli—and whatever else the season has in store. Just behind it, a blueberry-hued tiled stove crackles gently, casting warmth and comfort into the room. It’s the kind of start to the day that lingers—in the best possible way.
At lunchtime, the kitchen turns out light snacks and homemade cakes—ideal for a pause between forest walks or poolside lounging. And when the sun’s out? Grab a seat in the garden, sip a chilled glass of wine and gaze out over the green hills.
Dinner? That’s when the magic truly begins. Beautiful plates, rooted in the region, tasting of the land—and looking like modern art. Carefully crafted, delicately seasoned, and deeply satisfying.
A weekly highlight: every Thursday is Kässpätzle night. That’s cheesy spaetzle for the uninitiated—golden, gooey, gloriously good. Pair it with a bottle from the lovingly curated wine cellar, raise your glass to good company, and round off the evening with a local herbal digestif and that familiar, contented sigh that says: this is the life.

THE ADVENTURE
Easy to reach, hard to leave
Fuchsegg sits at 1,060 metres above sea level, tucked into the natural beauty of Schetteregg – remote enough to breathe deeply, yet easily accessible by car or public bus. And once you’re here? You might just forget where you came from. Because all that’s good and grounding begins quite literally right outside the door.
Winter: Small Slopes, Big Smiles
The Schetteregg ski area is just outside your door—ideal for beginners, families and everyone who prefers charming over crowded. Start your morning on the slopes, pop back for a warm-up at the fireplace, then head out again for another run. Ski in, chill out.
Summer: E-Biking with Flavour
Take the scenic route to Schönenbach on a Simplon e-bike – gliding past rolling pastures and whispering forests. The highlight? A stop at Gasthaus Egender, where Kässpätzle come golden and glorious. Or go all in with the “Hubertusburger” – a proper alpine indulgence.
Hiking: Family Strolls to Full-On Summits
Start right from the lodge with the easy-going Schetteregg loop—a scenic trail past the very alpine hut that supplies Fuchsegg’s breakfast cheese. Craving more altitude? Climb the Winterstaude (1,877 m) or Tristenkopf (1,741 m)—two peaks that look beautiful from the garden and feel even better underfoot. Or link them together for a glorious half-day loop.
Forest Bathing & Berry Picking
A short stroll takes you to the Langenegg Forest—an enchanting patch of woodland perfect for slowing down. Depending on the season, you’ll find wild blueberries in abundance. Take your shoes off, breathe deeply, and snack straight from the source.
Free Travel & Big Views
With the Bregenzerwald Guest Card (included with your stay), you’ll enjoy free rides on buses and selected mountain cableways. One to try: the Bezau cable car. At the top: a 90-minute panoramic loop walk with views over the entire valley, Lake Constance—and Fuchsegg below. On the first Friday of every month, stay for the sunset rides. Pure magic.
Artisan Craft & Local Culture
The Bregenzerwald is known for its exceptional craftsmanship—authentic, regional, and full of soul. Visit the Werkraum in Andelsbuch to discover the region’s creative heart—from traditional woodwork to contemporary textiles. Warning: you may want to take a few treasures home. And while you won’t find shopping malls here, every village has a farm shop, a cosy café or a general store full of charming things you didn’t know you needed.
A Museum That Moves You
Culture-seekers should make their way to Hittisau and its remarkable Women’s Museum. Not your average museum, but a lively space of ever-changing exhibitions on women's history and stories. Founded in 2000, it has hosted over 50 bold, brilliant and sometimes provocative shows. Inspiring, eye-opening and unforgettable.
