FAMILY HIKE WITH A PICTURE-PERFECT VIEW
A walk that feels almost like a gentle stroll – and yet rewards you with breathtaking views. In the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park, just above the charming mountain village of Rein in Taufers, you’ll find the rustic hay barns affectionately known as the Lobisa Schupfn. Set against alpine meadows and dramatic peaks, the panorama unfolds like a painting: the glacier giants of the Rieserferner range – Hochgall, Riesernock, Wildgall and the distinctive 12er Nock – rising like silent guardians above the valley.
STARTING OUT IN REIN IN TAUFERS
The trail begins at the small car park next to the Gol Market (Hotel Berger), just above the church. Within minutes you’re surrounded by nature: first crossing lush meadows, sprinkled with wildflowers in early summer, then stepping into a sun-dappled larch forest where golden light filters through the branches. Soon the path joins a wide gravel track, gently climbing towards the charming Gasteiger Alm – the perfect spot for a little break.
TURN BY TURN TOWARDS THE SKY
Beyond the Alm the trail winds its way uphill in gentle switchbacks. Broad alpine pastures open up all around, and with every step the panorama grows more impressive. One moment your gaze drops deep into the valley, the next it’s drawn to the jagged peaks that seem to edge ever closer. When sunlight dances across the glaciers, the colours shift from brilliant white to deep blue – a spectacle you won’t soon forget.
DESTINATION: THE LOBISA SCHUPFN
At 1,958 metres, you finally reach them: the Lobisa Schupfn. Eight weathered hay barns, darkened by sun and storms, standing like quiet witnesses of a bygone age. They seem like humble guardians between earth and sky – timeless, stoic, and full of character. It’s the kind of place that makes you linger: to soak in the views, let your thoughts drift, or simply enjoy the rare gift of mountain silence.

A SECOND LOOK ON THE WAY DOWN
The return follows the same path – and yet it feels as if you’re discovering a brand-new trail. Going downhill, the landscape reveals itself differently: the meadows seem wider, the valley deeper, the light shifting with every passing cloud. Once more you wander through larch forests and open fields before reaching the village again – carrying with you the sense of having found something truly special: a hike that’s easy to reach, gentle to walk, and impossible to forget.
