→ ANOTHER HIKING TIP ON THE CHESTNUT TRAIL
If you’d prefer a one-way hike instead of the circular route, here’s a lovely alternative: The walk from Feldthurns to Klausen is one of the most beautiful stages along the famous Eisack Valley Chestnut Trail – lined with golden trees, sweeping views and that unmistakable South Tyrolean charm.

AUTUMN HIKE OF PURE INDULGENCE
A trail that begins so gently you might almost underestimate it – and yet, with every step, it reveals small wonders. Between chestnut groves, vineyards and sunlit meadows, the loop above Feldthurns winds through a landscape dressed in its finest autumn colours. Golden leaves shimmer in the light, the scent of ripe fruit hangs in the air, and across the valley, the striking Geisler peaks rise against a crystal-clear sky.
SETTING OUT FROM FELDTHURNS
Your walk begins in the village centre of Feldthurns, following trail no. 20 uphill. Within minutes, the first wide views over the Eisack Valley open up – a little prelude to what’s ahead. Soon you step into a magical chestnut forest: water murmurs beside the path, sunlight dances through the leaves, and with every step the ground whispers beneath your feet. After a short descent, the route climbs again past the Feldthurnerhof – and joins the Panorama Trail.

From Feldthurns along the Panorama Trail to Verdings
ALONG THE PANORAMA TRAIL TO VERDINGS
The trail lives up to its name – leading all the way to Verdings. It rises gently through woodland and meadows, then crosses open slopes with sweeping views across the valley. In the crisp autumn air, everything feels closer and brighter – even the Dolomites on the far side seem almost within reach. A few benches invite you to linger, soak up the sun and watch the Geisler peaks glowing in the afternoon light – a moment when time seems to slow.

Walking from Verdings to Pardell – towards Gasthaus Huber and the view of Branzoll Castle
FROM VERDINGS TO PARDELL
From Verdings, trail no. 1b descends through quiet forest to Pardell, where Gasthaus Huber offers a well-earned rest – a perfect stop for local wine, roasted chestnuts and South Tyrolean specialities. The path then follows the signs of the Chestnut Trail (Keschtnweg) back towards Feldthurns, passing the Moar zur Viersch farmhouse inn and a stretch of open meadow with breathtaking views of the Geisler peaks.

From Pardell back to Feldthurns along the Chestnut Trail
BACK TO FELDTHURNS VIA THE CHESTNUT TRAIL
Before returning to the starting point, the trail dips once more into a colourful chestnut forest – golden light, quiet air, the earthy scent of fallen leaves. Finally, it leads down to the Radoar Hof farmhouse, where freshly roasted chestnuts and a hearty Marende are served in the sunny garden with a glass of young Eisack Valley wine. From here, it’s only a short walk back to the car park or bus stop – and you’ll carry with you that rare sense of having spent a day that touched every one of your senses.
