THE VIBE

Picture yourself leaning against a centuries-old stone wall, glass of wine in hand, listening to the tales it could tell. A quiet witness to five centuries, it now looks out towards the Stubai Alps, quietly collecting the stories of those who stay at DAS1494.

Jennifer and Patrick restored this landmark in Fronhausen with patience, skill and deep respect for its soul. Alongside heritage experts and local craftsmen, they uncovered the old masonry, sanded beams and façades, and discovered through research that the house dates back to 1494.

Inside, restraint rules. Clear lines, furniture crafted by local carpenters, modern design that takes a step back – letting the house itself speak. And then there’s the showstopper: a freestanding black steel staircase floating through the stonework, resting on beams that have been part of this home for centuries and are now ready to carry a new story.

THE STAY

Even the staircase feels like an arrival. A freestanding sweep of black steel rises past a wall of glass, drawing the eye upwards before revealing two generous apartments. Here, stone walls that have stood for centuries meet terrazzo-tiled bathrooms, modern kitchens and interiors pared back with intention – leaving room for the building’s soul to shine.

Bedrooms face north, with direct access to two additional doubles that can be booked separately – a thoughtful touch for day visitors. Sleep comes easily, thanks to carefully recreated wooden box windows with softly textured Goethe glass that hush the outside world. Even the nearby Fernpass road falls silent here. Add deep mattresses and cocooning linens, and nights are pure comfort.

Step onto the south-facing balconies and the world turns green: forests, meadows, mountains – and the quiet certainty that everyday life has been left far behind.

Up under the roof, two more apartments hide their character in every beam. Sloping ceilings, sofa niches tucked under the eaves, timbers that have stood for centuries – none of this could ever have been designed, it could only be inherited. Jennifer and Patrick have simply translated it into today with care. Staying here means living history in a way that feels both authentic and surprisingly modern.

And what truly makes the house alive? The hosts themselves. Jennifer and Patrick do everything personally – from the warmest of welcomes to the final details before check-in. They even refresh the air before each new arrival. With their three children in the neighbouring house, the garden often rings with laughter, visiting children joining in on the big trampoline. Here, old walls listen to new stories – and arriving feels very much like coming home.

THE FOOD

Freedom, in every sense – also when it comes to food. Each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen for those who love to cook. Prefer a slower morning? Fresh bread rolls appear at your door with the daily bread service. And that first coffee? Just a button away, with views of the mountains to accompany it.

For little treats in between, there’s the honesty bar on the landing – a treasure chest stocked with wine, beer and soft drinks. You’ll also find an extra coffee machine and fine teas there, so even guests in the double rooms can always pour themselves a warming cup. Simple, thoughtful, always available.

And when it’s time to head out, Jennifer and Patrick know all the local favourites – from rustic Alpine huts to elegant restaurants – and will happily point you to their insider picks.

THE ADVENTURE

TIME TO SLOW DOWN & DISCOVER

Stay a little longer at DAS1494 and gain something rare: time. Time for gentle walks through meadows and forests, for hikes with sweeping views, and for long, lazy breaks in mountain huts. From three nights onwards, the Welcome Card of the Innsbruck region is included – your key to free bus and train rides, guided hikes with mountain experts, discounts for museums and activities, and, best of all, complimentary or reduced rides on nearby cable cars.

ALPINE & URBAN IN ONE

Here you don’t have to choose between mountains and city life. Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol, is just half an hour away – a place where culture, history and the Alps come together. Stroll the old town in the morning, ride the Nordkette cable car in the afternoon and gaze across the city from above.

THE SUN BALCONY

The Mieming Plateau itself feels like a sunny balcony between ranges: the Mieming mountains to the north, the Stubai and Ötztal Alps to the south. From DAS1494 your gaze reaches the Sellrain peaks. A simple hike to the Faltegartenköpfl enchants in every season – blooming in summer, sparkling in winter. Directly behind the house, the path climbs to the Lehnberghaus with its viewing platform “Lacke”, opening up sweeping views over the plateau and the Inn Valley. Afterwards, a hearty stop at Gasthaus Arzkasten is a must.

For something gentler, take a stroll to the Stöttlalm – famous for its sunny-terrace brunch, framed by the Mieming golf course. It’s also one of Tyrol’s most sought-after wedding spots – romantic, panoramic and full of Alpine charm.

Cyclists will love the climb to the Simmering Alm, where cool mountain air and hearty fare await.

In winter, the plateau transforms into a quiet wonderland: groomed winter hiking trails and cross-country tracks weave through snowy forests, snowshoe hikes open up new perspectives in the white expanse, and toboggan runs promise laughter and speed. And if it’s downhill skiing you’re after, the Kühtai and Ötztal resorts are close enough for an easy day trip – with perfectly prepared slopes and panoramic views that make every run memorable.

LOCAL SECRETS

Jennifer and Patrick are outdoor lovers themselves, often exploring with their children. Their recommendations are never just tips – they’re favourite places, little secrets you only discover when shared by locals. And when you return in the evening, it’s not only the mountains that hold your stories – the old walls of DAS1494 listen quietly too, adding them to five centuries of memories.
