Tucked into Austria’s most scenic cul-de-sac, Walser Art sits at the end of the line in the Kleinwalsertal, a remote valley only accessible from Germany. No through traffic, no noise, no pressure – just mountains, meadows and a breath of fresh air that instantly lightens your mood. Fancy a bounce? There’s a trampoline in the garden just waiting for lift-off.

The atmosphere? Unpretentious, creative, wonderfully relaxed. It might be the featherlight design touches – or maybe the actual feather lampshade – but everything here invites you to slow down and smile.

And you get to shape your stay exactly how you like it. Early riser? Unroll your yoga mat and salute the sun on the terrace. Romantic at heart? There’s a fire bowl and firewood ready outside – just add wine and let the sparks fly.

THE STAY

At Walser Art, staying is never just staying – it’s living. Laughing. Cooking. Relaxing. With sizes ranging from 60 to 180 m², the nine ApARTments offer room for 4 to 10 guests – ideal for family holidays, group escapes or simply anyone who needs a little more space to breathe. (Yes, dogs are welcome too.)

The interiors are a love letter to local heritage – with bold hues drawn from traditional Walser attire and delicate stitched florals that whisper of Alpine roots. It’s a seamless blend of past and present, warmth and elegance.

Each apartment features at least two bedrooms, offering everyone their own peaceful nook. But it’s the open kitchens and large terraces that bring people together – perfect for preparing long dinners, raising a toast at sunset or watching the mountains turn gold.

No two apartments are alike. Artful details, clever design, and personality in every room. Even the bedrooms tell their own quiet stories. And outside? The garden stretches out into rolling meadows, framed by a breathtaking mountain panorama that never gets old.

THE FOOD

Arrive, open the fridge, and feel right at home. Upon request, your apartment comes stocked with regional delicacies – think cured meats, mountain cheese, and local treats perfect for a laid-back breakfast the next morning. Add a packet of coffee from Purschwarz, a boutique roastery just across the border, and your day is off to a delicious start.

Craving more? Just head to the in-house honesty shop: chilled sodas, beer, Radler, and a well-chosen wine selection await. You can feel the passion of your hosts in every detail – Tobias, a chef, wine sommelier and farmer, knows his way around flavour. Ask him about home-reared beef or lamb for the grill.

Not in the mood to cook? Susann will happily point you to her favourite restaurants in the valley – from cosy Alpine huts to creative fine dining. Here, food is about joy, not fuss.

THE ADVENTURE

Between 1,100 and 2,500 metres above sea level, the Kleinwalsertal offers a wild and wonderful world of Alpine discovery. Framed by the Lechtal Alps, the Allgäu hills and the Bregenzerwald, this secluded Austrian valley – accessible only from Germany – is home to three charming villages: Riezlern, Hirschegg and Mittelberg.

In winter, it’s a snow-sure wonderland – locals even call it a “snow hole” – with excellent slopes nearby, mountain huts for pit stops, and ski buses that stop right outside your door. The ground-level ski room makes gearing up (and winding down) a breeze.

Summer brings out the hiker, biker and view-seeker in everyone. With the mountain lift pass included, guests at Walser Art enjoy unlimited access to all cable cars and buses in the region – a golden ticket to fresh air, flower meadows and ridge trails galore.

Want the perfect first look? Ride the Walmendingerhornbahn straight from Mittelberg – a scenic ‘drive-in summit’ with sweeping views across the valley and a line-up of local legends: the mighty Widderstein, the dramatic Ifen plateau and the elegant Nebelhorn.

On the other side of the valley, hop on the Kanzelwandbahn in Riezlern, hike to the Kuhgehrenspitze, then stop for a hearty snack at the Kuhgehrenalpe. From there, wind your way back through the Wildental, where waterfalls tumble and rustic Alpine huts like the Fluchtalpe or Wiesalpen await.

Up for a challenge? The Gottesacker Plateau is a true natural marvel – a vast stone ocean of dolines, crevices and karst formations, laced with rare Alpine flora. Take the Ifen lift for a head start, but keep in mind: this is serious mountain territory and should only be explored in good weather and with experience.

Still not enough? Don’t miss the Breitachklamm, one of Europe’s deepest gorges – or cool off post-hike in one of the nearby open-air pools or natural moor lakes.
