One of the things that makes DER ENGEL so memorable is that no two spaces feel quite the same. Behind every door is another cosy parlour, a quiet corner or a place you'll find yourself lingering just a little longer. As you wander through the hotel, it quickly becomes clear that this isn't a property built all at once. Since 1748, it has been thoughtfully expanded, reimagined and shaped over generations—and every room reflects a different chapter of that story.

The hotel's original Tyrolean parlours remain a reminder of its heritage, sitting comfortably alongside the contemporary spaces added in recent years. Rather than competing for attention, old and new complement one another with surprising ease. Timber, stone and other natural materials create a sense of continuity throughout, while floor-to-ceiling windows frame the surrounding mountains, making the landscape feel like an extension of the interiors.

Despite offering 106 rooms and suites, DER ENGEL never loses its intimate feel. Each area has its own distinct personality, from the centuries-old Stuben and elegant lounges to the expansive wellness spaces. It's this sense of variety—and the feeling that every corner has been designed with purpose—that makes settling in feel effortless.

Nowhere is that more evident than in the Orgänic Spa. Instead of traditional spa layouts, you'll find flowing spaces, organic architecture and countless secluded nooks that invite you to slow down. The centrepiece is an extraordinary ceiling crafted from around 40,000 pieces of driftwood, painstakingly assembled over several months and seemingly floating above the spa below. Together with ten saunas and steam rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, and generous relaxation areas, it creates a sanctuary where unwinding comes naturally.

Even after several days, there's always another favourite spot to discover. Perhaps it's a sun-drenched terrace overlooking the mountains, a quiet armchair tucked between the historic parlours, or a peaceful lounger in the spa. It's these thoughtful details and ever-changing spaces that make DER ENGEL more than just a hotel—it's a place that reveals itself a little more with every stay.

From the moment you arrive, it's easy to slip into holiday mode. Check-in begins in the cosy Herzerlstube, where a glass of Prosecco sets the tone while you're introduced to the hotel and its weekly programme. There's no rush—just time to settle in, take a breath and soak up the warm, welcoming atmosphere that defines DER ENGEL.

A short tour of the property offers a first glimpse of what awaits before it's finally time to unlock your room. With 106 individually designed rooms and suites, no two stays are quite the same. Some embrace classic Alpine charm, while others lean towards clean, contemporary design, but each has its own distinct sense of character.

Once inside, your eyes are naturally drawn to the view. Depending on your room, you'll be looking out across the Tannheimer Valley, the hotel's own mountain lake or the beautifully landscaped alpine gardens. It's the kind of panorama that tempts you to linger on the balcony just a little longer—although before long, the gentle buzz from the sun terrace and the promise of the afternoon snack spread are likely to draw you downstairs.

At DER ENGEL, it doesn't take long to realise that the rhythm of the day isn't shaped solely by hikes, spa sessions or mountain adventures—it's just as much about what comes next on the table. No sooner has breakfast come to an end than you're already looking forward to the afternoon spread, and before that's over, it's time to think about dinner.

Mornings begin with a generous breakfast buffet featuring regional favourites, freshly prepared egg dishes, fluffy *Kaiserschmarrn* and plenty of other Alpine specialities. It's the kind of breakfast that encourages you to linger over a second coffee before heading out into the mountains.

After a morning on the trails—or a few blissfully unhurried hours in the spa—you'll naturally find your way back to the hotel just in time for the afternoon *Jause*. Expect hearty hot dishes, crisp salads, homemade soups, light bites and an irresistible selection of freshly baked cakes. It's the perfect pause before the day continues.

As evening falls, the culinary experience takes centre stage once again. A changing six-course gourmet menu is served in one of the hotel's 15 Engel Stuben, each with its own unique atmosphere. The menu moves effortlessly between Austrian classics and contemporary creations, all showcasing the best seasonal ingredients the region has to offer.

By the end of the day, it's easy to understand why enjoyment is such a defining part of life at DER ENGEL. From that first morning coffee to the final course at dinner, every meal becomes another memorable moment of the stay.

At DER ENGEL, the mountains begin the moment you step outside. There's no need to drive to the nearest trailhead—simply lace up your hiking boots and set off. Countless walking and cycling routes start right at the hotel, making it wonderfully easy to explore the spectacular landscapes of the Tannheimer Valley at your own pace.

That's part of what makes a stay here feel so effortless. One day might take you to a panoramic summit, the next to a traditional mountain hut, or on a scenic bike ride through the valley. Winter brings perfectly groomed ski slopes, cross-country trails and peaceful snow-covered walking paths, while the warmer months open up an endless network of hiking and cycling routes. And if you're in the mood to slow things down, the hotel's programme of yoga sessions, guided hikes and other activities offers plenty of ways to stay active without ever venturing far.

One of the most rewarding routes begins right outside the hotel, climbing to the Bad Kissinger Hut before continuing along the scenic Gräner Höhenweg to the Füssener Jöchle mountain station. From there, the cable car carries you gently back down into the valley, leaving just a short walk before you're back at DER ENGEL.

Returning to the hotel, the pace naturally begins to soften. A few unhurried hours in the spa, a leisurely dinner and one last look at the mountains as the evening light fades—sometimes that's all it takes to end a day in the Alps on the perfect note.
